Growing up in the Midwest, specifically in Minnesota, the Land of 10,000 Lakes, I have always enjoyed math and working with numbers. I have also always enjoyed working with people. My father was an Estate and Trust Tax Attorney who loved the accounting side of things, so I guess I just put all that together and went down the professional tax and accounting path.
I truly do enjoy working in the tax area, not because I enjoy paying taxes, but because taxes are a necessary part of life. I enjoy the challenge of keeping abreast of the tax code and using that knowledge to help my clients take full advantage of the tax code so they are paying as little in taxes as is allowed by law.
One thing that sets me apart from other CPA's. especially those who work for major accounting firms, is that I take a personal interest in all my clients. It's easy to get lost in the shuffle at a large accounting firm. I develop a working relationship with my clients and truly care about their financial well being. This enables me to better meet their needs and insure that I do the best possible job for them.
An ideal client for me is one who respects the fact that we have a tax code to follow and rules to abide by when preparing a tax return. An ideal client is also one who recognizes that I have their best interest at heart and will do everything legally under the tax code to insure that their tax liability is the lowest possible without putting them in jeopardy with the IRS. It also helps if a client has all their information organized...but I can help them with that!
